Overview:

A coganitive bias that stamps a group psycology. We believe something just because it's the popular belief. This can be viewed as a positive and a negative aspect towards design. On one hand, it limits the creativity and on the other it saves time and makes the process easier. It enables a user to think logical and to drive conclusion by themselves faster.

“Cognitive bias by which opinion or behaviours can alter due to popular actions and beliefs.”

UX and Bandwagon’s bias:

Lets consider Netflix streaming, the user experience followed by Netflix is a steping stone and a bias that all online streaming platforms follow. The format for the banner, search buttons, catagorization etc. This often leads to thinking maybe thats the way it always has been. Even for any new user, it is easier to spot a button, they dont need any new inputs to learn the purpose of a button. At the same time a new format causes discomfort and might make the user confused.

Take away:

On one hand can be a plus to introduce any new digital product, allowing the familiar inputs to stay in place. However, on the other hand can limit our options and lead to a habbit to adopt ideas generated by other. If this bias was always followed, creativity may take a dip.
